Filmmaker Development Overview

Free talks, panels and workshops for aspiring filmmakers

The 2017 Festival’s Filmmaker Development program is the most ambitious to date. Forums and workshops have been designed to provide not just an overview on a variety of filmmaking topics, but also dig a little deeper with some tailored and skill based workshops. The FREE program kicks off with The Big Picture, a full day of panels and workshops scheduled for Saturday 20 May. This day is complemented by a suite of forums and networking events running throughout the week. Filmmakers at every stage of their career will find something that will develop their skills and networks. Collaborating with the Festival on the program are the usual suspects; the key industry and guilds and the most promising Australian filmmakers.

The ‘Big Picture’ covers all you need to know about making a short film, from start to finish. Join us for a jam packed day of all things film with forums on scriptwriting, funding, legals, pre and post production, marketing and distribution; all moderated by Shaun Miller with some of the industry’s most experienced and awarded filmmakers and film professionals. If you want to dig a little deeper there are also specialist workshops on drones, film and sound editing, cinematography, composing, crowdfunding and more. And if that isn’t enough, you can continue the conversations face to face with industry representatives from equipment hire companies, pre and post-production houses, education bodies and filmmaker guilds at our film market.
